Robin Kelly (IL-02) signed the bipartisan discharge petition to force a vote on the House floor on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, sponsored by Reps. Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Thomas Massie (KY-04). The discharge petition needs the support of 218 U.S. Representatives.Speaker Mike Johnson recessed early in July to block a vote on releasing the Epstein Files, however, as Congress returned, calls for transparency around the Epstein Files have continued.Kelly. “I see the games they’re trying to play, and it won’t work. There’s a bipartisan push in Congress to stand with the brave survivors who have shared their traumatic stories with us and are demanding the full release of the Epstein Files.“President Trump – once again – would rather protect himself and fellow elitists than giving the American people the truth about the Epstein Files. The Department of Justice tried to fool the public by releasing 33,000 pages of Epstein documents, but 97% of the documents were already public,” said Rep.

Taiwan nuclear plant re-opening vote fails as approval threshold missed | Reuters

A referendum to push for the re-opening of Taiwan's last nuclear plant failed on Saturday to reach the legal threshold to be valid, though the president said the island could return to the technology in the future if safety standards improve. The small Taiwan People's Party (TPP) proposed the referendum earlier this year, and with the backing of the much larger Kuomintang (KMT) passed the legislation for the vote, saying Taiwan needs reliable power supplies and not to be so reliant on imports.Around 4.3 million people voted in favour of the plant's re-opening in the referendum, a clear majority over the 1.5 million who voted against, figures from the Central Election Commission showed.A larger recall vote, to try and oust 24 lawmakers from the same party, also failed last month.Lai said Premier Cho Jung-tai had asked many times to resign after the failure of the recall votes in July, but he had asked Cho to stay on.

Archived Petition: Allow electors to vote for a re-vote if they feel no candidate represents them

Electors should be entitled to vote for a re-vote at an election, to highlight to candidates that they should reconsider what constituents want from them and give them an alternative to voting for a candidate they do not feel represents them. Giving electors the option of voting for a re-vote should mean that parties think more about what their constituents want, rather than leaving constituents forced to choose between candidates they don’t have full confidence in.If a request for a re-vote receives more votes than any candidate the election should be re-run, giving parties and candidates an opportunity to reconsider what their constituents want.18 of 10,000 signatures required to get a government response

GOP Rep. Thomas Massie takes first step to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files

WASHINGTON — Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., the conservative firebrand who's clashed with Donald Trump and other GOP leaders, filed a discharge petition Tuesday to force a floor vote compelling the Justice Department to release all the files from the Jeffrey Epstein case. Ro Khanna of California, said they will begin collecting signatures for their Epstein resolution starting Tuesday. They need at least 218 signatures — half the members of the House — to force a vote, and Khanna told NBC News he is certain that all 212 Democrats will sign on, along with at least six Republicans. If they can secure the requisite 218 signatures, there is still an additional waiting period of seven legislative days before a vote can happen. Then the House speaker has two legislative days before he must call up the measure for a vote on the floor. So, the earliest a final vote could happen would be in two weeks. Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and other GOP leaders are opposed to the push, arguing that it’s not needed because the House Oversight Committee is investigating the matter and is in the process of reviewing a tranche of Epstein records.Trying to release the building pressure on Epstein, GOP leaders on Tuesday added their own Epstein-related bill to the list of legislation the House will tackle this week. But the bill has little teeth: It would direct the Oversight Committee to “continue its ongoing investigation into the possible mismanagement of the Federal government’s investigation of Mr. Jeffrey Epstein and Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell” — something the panel is already doing. "@SpeakerJohnson just scheduled this meaningless vote to provide political cover for those members who don’t support our bipartisan legislation to force the release of the Epstein files," Massie wrote on X.

Redo election - Ballotpedia

Most commonly, states or courts ... call the results into question.[1] However, there have been instances when courts call a redo election even when the number of affected votes would not change the outcome or is unknown.[2]... Most commonly, states or courts only call for such a redo election if the number of ballots affected is large enough to change the outcome of the election or otherwise call the results into question.[1] However, there have been instances when courts call a redo election even when the number of affected votes would not change the outcome or is unknown.[2]Typically, states or courts call a redo election only after an interested party—normally a candidate, voter, or election official—contests the election results.[3] Contesting an election usually involves an interested party claiming ballots counted that should not have been, ballots rejected that should not have been, or some other issue that affected the outcome of the election. In addition, multiple individuals have come forward to claim that they were paid by a Republican political operative ... to collect absentee ballots from voters; under North Carolina law, it is, with limited exceptions, illegal to collect and return someone else's absentee ballot."[7]Reason for redo election: Mistake: voting machine malfunction ... On Nov. 5, 1974, Jeff LaCaze (D) faced Henson Moore (R) in Louisiana's 6th Congressional District's general election after defeating incumbent John Rarick (D) in the primary. The vote totals showed Moore in the lead with 60,969 votes to LaCaze's 60,925, a margin of 44 votes.[9]

Supreme Court orders re-vote after iVote crash in NSW local government elections - ABC News

Ratepayers in three NSW councils impacted by a failure of the online voting system will have to cast their vote a second time following the NSW Supreme Court scrapped the outcome of the election due to a failure of the online voting system. In delivering his judgement on Thursday afternoon, Justice Robert Beech-Jones declared the results in the three council areas void. "The primary consideration is the interest of the electorate," Justice Beech-Jones said. "The cost, stress and inconvenience to the elected cannot be elevated above the electorates' interest in having a council elected in accordance with the Local Government Act." He told the court even though the number of voters who were unable to vote was small their omission had real potential to change the results in all three councils.Analysis commissioned by the NSW Electoral Commission found 34 voters in Kempsey, 55 in Singleton and 54 in Shellharbour who attempted to use the iVote system were prevented from casting their vote. During a two-day hearing in February, several councillors told the court of the "reputational damage" caused by the proceedings while some said they would not run again in the event the result was thrown out.abc.net.au/news/ivote-revote-ordered-supreme-court-judgement/100917050Link copied ... Mike Johnson Re-elected as House Speaker After Chaotic Vote - The New York Times

Mike Johnson persuaded enough holdouts on the right to keep his post, but the vote reflected the steep challenge he faces in governing a slim and fractious majority. Speaker Mike Johnson on Friday won re-election to the top post in the House, salvaging his job in a dramatic last-minute turnabout by putting down a revolt from conservatives who initially voted to block his ascent.Johnson barely mustered the majority he needed to win re-election on the first ballot, with help from President-elect Donald J. Trump, who interrupted a golf game to lobby holdouts by phone. That allowed the speaker to avoid the humiliation of a multiday slog of failed votes like the one his predecessor Kevin McCarthy suffered through before ultraconservatives relented and elected him two years ago.Mr. Johnson won with just enough votes to clinch the gavel, 218 to 215. But the chaotic scene that played out on the House floor — with three Republicans initially opposing Mr. Johnson and six more abstaining until it appeared he would lose before voting for him — reflected the same divisions within G.O.P.Both Mr. Johnson and Mr. Trump had urged Republican lawmakers to quickly elect him speaker so the House could start work on the president-elect’s legislative priorities. But it became clear early into the vote on Friday that some of the hard-liners who had vented dissatisfaction with Mr.

Listhaug, a onetime firebrand who cites Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher as her role models, campaigned on what she said was wasteful public spending on areas such as international aid and subsidies to green energy. "Young people today are much more right-wing than earlier. I think the Progress Party has won a huge part of the youth vote, especially among young men," said Eirik Loekke, a fellow at Civitas, an Oslo-based liberal think-tank.Stoere welcomed the results, playing down any shift to the right. "This is a signal to outside Norway that social democracy can also win despite a right-wing wave," he told a jubilant crowd of Labour supporters chanting "four more years". Voter concerns over the conflict in Ukraine and an aggressive Russia, which shares a border with Norway in the Arctic, have given a boost to the left in recent months after former NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, 66, joined Stoere's cabinet.Progress secured 48 seats in the 169-seat parliament, more than double its allocation from four years ago, as the party's promise of large tax cuts appeared to have resonated with many voters."Stoere will continue as prime minister, but with a much more difficult parliamentary situation, in which he is dependent on five parties to govern," Jonas Stein, an associate professor in political science at the University of Tromsoe, told Reuters. Despite the left's victory, Monday's ballot showed a shift further to the right among conservative voters, with the populist, anti-immigration Progress Party of Sylvi Listhaug, 47, making its best-ever showing in an election.

US: Republicans demand in-person re-vote of 2020 race

We The People Convention urges Trump to declare martial law 'for sole purpose of having military oversee national re-vote' - Anadolu Ajansı A political organization in the US state of Ohio is running an online campaign demanding US President Donald Trump invoke martial law and hold a national re-vote.The group said a fair election can be held under circumstances such as paper ballots, no computers, hand-counted with both parties watching every vote and only registered voters."The other half will not accept the outcome if the courts see the evidence of fraud and rightfully overturn the election!" the Republican group said. "Therefore, We the People MUST demand a NEW and fair national vote, a vote that all Americans can trust and live by regardless of the winner! It claimed legislators, courts and Congress failed to do their duty during the 2020 presidential elections and urged Trump to immediately declare a limited form of martial law "for the sole purpose of having the military oversee a national re-vote."

Traditionally, this has been… Election systems must ensure that representatives are chosen by voters. Moreover, each voter should have equal influence. Traditionally, this has been achieved by permitting voters to cast at most one ballot. More recently, this has been achieved by tallying the last ballot cast by each voter. We show this is not achieved by the Helios election system, because an adversary can cause a ballot other than a voter's last to be tallied. Moreover, we show how the adversary can choose the contents of such a ballot, thus the adversary can unduly influence the selection of representatives.Eligibility. Choices are only made by voters. Eligibility ensures that non-voters cannot (directly) influence the decision. For instance, national elections typically require that voters are citizens of the nation, thus, eligibility forbids influence from foreign citizens.2Strong non-reusability enables voters to change their choices, which provides flexibility, and aids education (since voters can “ask the help of anyone for submitting a random ballot, and then re-voting privately afterwards” [20, §3.3]). By comparison, (weak) non-reusability does not enable voters to change their choices, because that notion does not specify which ballot should have influence.
